Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station announced on May 23 that it is recruiting 42 male and female volunteer firefighters from the local community who are interested in public safety and volunteer activities. Applications will be accepted until May 30.

Eligible applicants must be residents or regular inhabitants of Dong-gu, Gwangju, aged 19 or older and under 65. Applicants must be in good physical health, possess a strong sense of sacrifice and volunteerism, and have an interest in public safety and firefighting activities. Applications can be submitted in person at Dongbu Fire Station or by mail. Final selection will be made through a two-stage process: a document screening followed by an interview.

The Dongbu Volunteer Fire Brigade currently consists of about 200 members across nine units. They serve as guardians of safety at various disaster sites, including fires, rescues, emergency medical services, and daily safety incidents, leading the safety culture in the local community.

For more information regarding the recruitment, please refer to the announcement posted on the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters website or contact the 119 Disaster Response Team at Dongbu Fire Station.

Chief Moon Heejun stated, "The volunteer fire brigade plays an important role in safeguarding the safety of the local community," and added, "We encourage many citizens to show interest and apply."
