Free Performances at Yeongdeok Culture and Arts Center in July and August
The Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation will host five performances across various genres?including Korean traditional music (gugak), ballet, classical music, art songs, and madangnori?this July and August to revitalize Yeongdeok County, an area affected by wildfires, and to support the region’s recovery.
These performances, designed especially for families, feature three out of five shows offered free of charge, while the remaining two will be available at exceptionally discounted rates.
The first performance in July, Shin Guibok Art Song Concert "Stars of Art Song", will take place on July 5 at 4:00 p.m., showcasing the beauty of Korean art songs. On July 11 and 12, the Seoul Ballet Theatre’s "Fairies of Pink Moon and Cinderella" will be held with free admission for all seats.
Following this, on July 16 at 7:00 p.m., the Yeongdeok Boem Ensemble Concert will be held for free at the small theater of the Yeongdeok Intangible Cultural Heritage Training Center. On July 19 at 4:00 p.m., Kim Seongnyeo’s Madangnori "Simcheong and Chunhyang Are Coming" will offer audiences the humor and excitement of traditional madangnori. On August 1 at 7:00 p.m., the National Gugak Center’s "Our Music and Dance Recognized Worldwide"?a project selected through the Gugak Promotion Program?will allow audiences to enjoy the essence of traditional Korean music and dance free of charge.
These performances have been selected through various public support programs, including the "2025 Regional Performing Arts Distribution Support Project," the National Gugak Center’s "Gugak for the People," and the Korea Arts Council’s "Arts Support Program for Children and Youth." The aim is to bridge cultural gaps between regions and to promote economic recovery and tourism in Yeongdeok.
In addition to the free performances?such as Seoul Ballet Theatre’s "Fairies of Pink Moon and Cinderella," the National Gugak Center’s "Our Music and Dance Recognized Worldwide," and the Yeongdeok Boem Ensemble’s regular concert?paid performances are also available at an affordable price of 10,000 KRW per seat, with a variety of discount benefits offered.
When booking tickets on the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation website, selecting the "Taste and Enjoy Yeongdeok" coupon in the discount section and presenting receipts from local restaurants, shops, or cafes on the day of the performance will entitle visitors to a discount upon ticket collection. Residents of Yeongdeok and Uljin counties are eligible for a 50% discount as well.
A representative of the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation stated, "We hope you will escape the summer heat and enjoy a refreshing cultural vacation in Yeongdeok during this holiday season."
Reservations for the five performances scheduled for July and August will open on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. through the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation website. Detailed information about the performances can also be found on the foundation’s website.
