People Power Party Expects Golden Cross for Kim Moonsoo Before Early Voting... Focuses on Strengthening Itself Over Unification

"Approval Ratings Begin to Rise... Rapid Consolidation of Supporters Centered on TK and PK Regions"
"Boosting Kim's Approval Ratings Is Key to Smooth Unification with Lee Junseok"

On May 23, the People Power Party expressed confidence regarding presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo's approval ratings, stating, "We expect to achieve a golden cross before early voting."

Yoon Jaeok, the chief of the People Power Party's election campaign committee, held a press conference at the party's central headquarters in Seoul that morning. He said, "We have significantly narrowed the gap in approval ratings that existed at the beginning of the campaign, and we are now establishing a foundation to overturn the situation. As we move into the mid-stage of the election, a meaningful rebound is beginning nationwide."

Yoon assessed, "So far, the election trend is very positive. Although the campaign started somewhat late due to the unique circumstances of an early presidential election and internal party issues, Kim's excellent character, sincere actions, and policies have gained increasing support compared to other candidates, leading to an upward trend."

He particularly noted, "Currently, support is rapidly consolidating in the TK (Daegu-Gyeongbuk) and PK (Busan-Gyeongnam) regions, and the upward trend is also beginning in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and Gangwon regions. Kim's distinctive character, proven abilities, and clear vision will lead to victory." He added, "This trend is seen as a signal of a major turnaround toward victory. We are determined to achieve a reversal by consolidating our support base and expanding to moderate voters until the very end."

Regarding Kim, he said, "His life itself can be described as one of dedication to the community. The years he has walked alongside the people for justice, for the lives of ordinary citizens, and for the Republic of Korea are more than enough to earn the public's trust."

In contrast, regarding Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, he criticized, "Judging by his public service record, he seems far from being competent or capable. In particular, his irresponsible and unsettling remarks on people's livelihoods and the economy, such as the 120-won coffee price and the hotel economy theory, have disappointed the public."

After the press conference, Yoon spoke with reporters about a potential unification with Lee Junseok, the candidate of the Reform New Party. He said, "Rather than focusing on unification, we will prioritize increasing our candidate's approval ratings?in other words, strengthening ourselves." He continued, "For a winning big tent, we need to raise our candidate's approval ratings further. If we narrow the gap with Lee Jaemyung and then unite with Lee Junseok, we can create a situation where victory is possible, which would allow unification negotiations to proceed smoothly."
