20.1 Million KRW in Just 12 Hours After Auction Began
The Highest Price Among Tottenham Players
The price of the uniform worn by Son Heungmin (33, Tottenham Hotspur), who led Tottenham Hotspur to victory in the UEFA Europa League (UEL), is soaring. Although there are about three weeks left until the auction closes, the price has already exceeded 20 million KRW.
On May 23, the uniform auction site 'MatchWornShirt' is holding an auction for the uniforms of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United players who played in the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League final.
Son Heungmin's uniform, as captain of Tottenham, commanded an extraordinary price from the start. Within just 12 hours of the auction opening, the bidding surpassed 12,890 euros (about 20.1 million KRW), making it the highest among all Tottenham players. So far, there have been a total of 31 bids, with the highest bidder reportedly being an Australian national.
The Son Heungmin uniform up for auction is an 'issued' uniform. This means it was prepared for the match but was not actually worn during the game. Clubs usually prepare extra uniforms in case one gets torn before a match. The 'issued' uniform was collected directly by Tottenham and features Son Heungmin's signature.
The 'match-worn' uniform of Brennan Johnson, who scored in the final, has reached a bid of 9,001 euros (about 14.04 million KRW). A match-worn uniform is one that the player actually wore during the game. Johnson's uniform also includes the player's signature, and there have been 18 bids so far. The match-worn uniform of Micky van de Ven has climbed to 8,502 euros (13.26 million KRW). Cristian Romero's match-worn uniform is currently being auctioned at 4,600 euros (7.17 million KRW).
On May 22, at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, Tottenham defeated Manchester United (England) 1-0 in the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League final to claim the title. After 15 years as a professional, Son Heungmin experienced his first club championship, finally shedding the label of 'no trophies.' In a post-match interview, Son Heungmin said, "It feels like a dream come true. A lifetime of effort and dedication has finally paid off," adding, "I felt like the luckiest person in the world, and also the happiest."
