Kia EV3 Earns Top Rating in European New Car Safety Assessment

Received Five-Star Rating in Euro NCAP Assessment

On May 23, Kia announced that the EV3 has received the highest rating of five stars from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), which is Europe's new car safety evaluation program.

The EV3 was highly rated for maintaining passenger compartment integrity during collisions, effectively protecting occupants, and being equipped with various safety features such as a driver status monitoring system. A Kia representative explained that this result is especially meaningful because the EV3 has been recognized for top-level safety despite being a small vehicle class, which is generally at a disadvantage in crash safety performance.

With this achievement, Kia has now earned the highest rating for all of its dedicated electric vehicle models evaluated by Euro NCAP?EV6 in 2022, EV9 in 2023, and now the EV3.

The Euro NCAP test is a European new car evaluation program that began in 1997. It conducts safety verification tests on vehicles sold in Europe and publishes the results annually. The evaluation consists of four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection, and safety assist systems. Ratings are assigned based on the comprehensive evaluation results.

Euro NCAP stated that the EV3 maintained a safe passenger compartment in both frontal and side impact tests, providing excellent protection for all major body areas of the occupants. In particular, the EV3 received the highest score in the side impact test for adult occupant protection, and also achieved excellent scores in child occupant protection by safeguarding all major body areas.

Euro NCAP also highly praised the EV3 for being equipped with a system that monitors the driver's condition and an automatic emergency call system that notifies rescue services in the event of an accident. The inclusion of a multi-collision automatic braking system, which helps prevent secondary collisions after an initial impact, was also positively evaluated.

Kia has expanded the use of ultra-high-strength hot-stamped components in the EV3, optimized the front body structure to better disperse energy during a collision, and reinforced key materials and structures on the sides of the passenger compartment. In addition, the EV3 is equipped with a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems to help ensure safe and convenient driving.

Pablo Martinez, Executive Director of Product and Marketing at Kia Europe, stated, "The EV3 is an incredibly versatile vehicle that supports a wide range of customer lifestyles," adding, "This evaluation result demonstrates that the EV3 is a safe vehicle for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike."
