Four Days at the Geumcheon-gu Office Sunken Plaza from May 24 to 27
Daily Book Curation and Hands-on Programs with Changing Themes
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that it will operate the outdoor library "Chaekdalsaem" at the Sunken Plaza of Geumcheon-gu Office for four days, from May 24 to May 27.
Chaekdalsaem is a compound word combining "chaek" (book) and "ongdalsaem" (spring), meaning "a spring where books well up." Designed as a complex cultural space blending books, performances, and hands-on experiences, it aims to allow visitors to leisurely enjoy books and experience diverse cultural content in the heart of the city.
During the event period, a "book recommendation" program will connect readers with books based on a different daily theme. The theme for May 24 is "Family: Warmer Together"; for May 25, "Environment: One Step for the Earth"; for May 26, "Future Technology: Technology Opening Tomorrow"; and for May 27, "World Literature: A Journey Around the World Through Literature."
There will also be hands-on programs. From May 24 to May 27, every day from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., participants can make traditional books using the "ochimanjeongbeop" binding technique. Ochimanjeongbeop is a traditional method of binding books by threading five holes punched through the cover and inner pages. Registration is available at the event headquarters from 2:00 p.m. each day, and participation is limited to 30 people per day on a first-come, first-served basis. The virtual reality (VR) experience will be offered 14 times in total from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 24 and May 25, and 8 times in total from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 26 and May 27. Those wishing to participate can register at the VR booth on the day of the event.
In addition, visitors can enjoy one performance each day and the "Monday-Tuesday Outdoor Theater" program. In particular, the film "Leafie, a Hen into the Wild" will be screened on May 26, and the film "The Last Princess" will be shown on May 27.
District Mayor Yoo Seonghun said, "I hope this will be an opportunity for people to get closer to books through the various programs offered at the Geumcheon-gu outdoor library Chaekdalsaem," and added, "I hope everyone will experience the joy of books naturally blending into daily life."
