On May 22, in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, a man in his 40s, identified as A, wielded a weapon against police officers who had responded to a domestic violence report, resulting in injuries to three officers. In total, four people, including police officers, were injured in the incident.
According to police and fire authorities, at around 10:06 p.m. that day, at an apartment in Wadong-dong, Paju, the man in his 40s, A, brandished a weapon at three police officers who had arrived at the scene in response to a domestic violence report.
As a result of the incident, one officer sustained serious injuries to the neck and back and was transported to the hospital, while the other two officers suffered minor injuries to their arms and other areas. After committing the attack, A inflicted self-harm, sustaining serious injuries, and was also taken to the hospital.
At the time, the police officers had been dispatched to the scene following a domestic violence report filed by A's wife.
The police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact motive and circumstances of the incident. Residents of the apartment building expressed shock and surprise at the sudden commotion.
A police official stated, "We are thoroughly investigating the motive and circumstances of the incident."
