The Gwangju Gwangsan-eul Regional Committee of the Democratic Party (headed by Hyungbae Min) is drawing attention with its unique election campaign ahead of the June 3 presidential election. This campaign features bicycle rallies and community-based activities organized by the 'Naemanse Committee' (short for 'Election Campaign Created by Me'), in which both citizens and party members participate.
On May 19, lawmaker Hyungbae Min, along with campaign workers, members of the Naemanse Committee's citizen campaign team, and the neighborhood cheering squad, rode bicycles through the alleys of Cheomdan 1 and 2-dong in Gwangsan-gu, engaging with local residents.
The 'Naemanse Committee' is a grassroots election organization where citizens themselves plan campaign events, produce promotional materials, and transform from political consumers into political creators. Since the beginning of the 21st presidential election, the committee has been leading the local election culture with creative programs such as bicycle rallies, citizen campaigns, and cheering tool contests.
The Naemanse Committee operates in a total of four divisions: the Citizen Campaign Team, the Ibangjeobang Online Promotion Team, the Neighborhood Cheering Squad, and the Naedonnaeman Self-Promotion Team.
The Citizen Campaign Team follows the principle of 'one citizen campaign per day,' with a different citizen taking the stage as a campaign speaker each day. The content of each campaign is produced as web posters and videos, which are then spread daily via social media. The Ibangjeobang Online Promotion Team independently creates at least three card news pieces or short video clips reflecting local issues each day.
The Neighborhood Cheering Squad holds cheering events throughout the neighborhood during morning and evening commute hours. On May 19, they conducted a bicycle rally and alley cheering activities simultaneously. The Naedonnaeman Self-Promotion Team spreads the joy of political participation through citizen-produced printed materials, cheering tools, and vlogs.
Kang Hansol, chairperson of the Naemanse Committee (and Gwangsan-gu council member), stated, "An election where citizens are the main actors is not just talk, but action. Real politics happens when we step forward and create it with our own hands. Here in Gwangsan, we will make Lee Jaemyung."
Hwang Yesle, a citizen who participated in the bicycle rally, said, "After making promotional materials myself and taking part in the campaign, politics feels much closer to me. I am actively encouraging everyone around me to make sure they vote."
Lawmaker Min stressed, "Now is the time for both politics and elections to be made by citizens. This presidential election will be a historic one, in which the great citizens of Gwangju will drive out the forces of rebellion."
