On May 22, during the sentencing hearing for Jeon at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 5, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Hyungseok, prosecutors asked the court to sentence Jeon to four years in prison on charges including special trespassing of a building.
Prosecutors stated, "He committed a crime by assaulting the police and directly challenged the rule of law."
Jeon is accused of breaking the window of the court's security office using police barricade debris and sticks, and damaging the third-floor access control device with a fire extinguisher.
Jeon is also known to have interfered with official duties by spraying a fire extinguisher at a police officer who was blocking entry to the building at the time.
Jeon's attorney requested leniency, citing that Jeon turned himself in, has shown remorse for his actions, and has otherwise led a normal life in society.
The sentencing for Jeon is scheduled for June 19 at 2:30 p.m.
