Lee Jaemyung: "Undermining the Value of Unity... Thorough Investigation and Prevention Measures"
Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, stated regarding the incident involving Kim Daenam, the former presidential office administrator who initially decided to join the campaign committee but later withdrew, "I have already instructed a thorough investigation, a review of measures to prevent recurrence, and disciplinary action if necessary."
On May 22, while speaking with reporters in the Yangsan area of South Gyeongsang Province, Lee said, "It appears to have been a rash action that undermined the value of unity." He added, "It seems to have been a mistake at the working level. Although there have been some mistakes, I hope for understanding if you share the greater cause of unity, even if there are shortcomings."
Previously, Kim Daenam had decided to participate in the Democratic Party's campaign committee but later withdrew and announced his support for Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party.
Regarding the attempt by independent lawmaker Kim Jongmin, who left the Democratic Party, to be reinstated, Lee said, "There have been such discussions, but as of now, there does not appear to be any progress," adding, "I don't think it's something that needs to be rushed."
He suggested that, despite some ups and downs, efforts to realize the value of unity would continue. Lee emphasized, "Politics cannot be monochromatic," and pointed out, "We also have Lee Inki, a lawmaker from the Saenuri Party, Heu Euna, former leader of the Reform Party, and Kim Sangwook, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, working together."
Lee added, "I hope people will recognize the Democratic Party's efforts to realize the value of unity, rather than other parties that simply expel members for disagreements or conflicts."
Meanwhile, on this day, Lee carried out campaign schedules in Jeju and Yangsan. During the Yangsan schedule, he paid a courtesy visit to Father Song Kiin, who was the spiritual mentor to Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Daejung. Lee said, "Father Song's main message was his regret that there has been no discussion on national agendas, and that diplomatic relations are extremely important."
