Proposal for National Project Budget and Measures
to Secure Foreign Seasonal Workers
Changnyeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on May 22 that County Governor Sung Nakin visited central government ministries to propose securing next year's budget for new national projects, obtaining special grants for the first half of this year, and addressing the labor shortage in rural areas through the supply of foreign seasonal workers.
At the Natural Disaster Response Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, he explained the necessity and urgency of national funding for the 42.1 billion won Goam Jungdae District Comprehensive Flood Risk Management Project and the 39.2 billion won Gyesong Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Project, and requested active cooperation.

He then visited the Local Finance Bureau to propose special grants totaling 4.8 billion won for local issues, including 1.9 billion won for the creation of a riverside trail along Topyeongcheon in Daeji-myeon, 1.5 billion won for the maintenance of the wastewater pipeline in Myeong-ri Village, Gyesong, and 1.4 billion won for flood damage improvement projects in Seok-ri District, Ibang, and Gang-ri District, Jangma. At the Disaster Management Policy Division, he requested a total of 6.6 billion won in special disaster safety management grants, including 2.5 billion won for maintenance work at Goam Cheonggan Reservoir, 2.1 billion won for the panel-type reinforced earth retaining wall at the northern end intersection of Namji Bridge, and 2 billion won for the maintenance of Naedong Small Stream in Ibang.
He also visited the Agricultural Innovation Policy Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to convey the worsening labor shortage during the busy farming season due to stricter enforcement of foreign residency qualifications. He urged the establishment of realistic and flexible supply measures, such as simplifying the application process for foreign seasonal workers and temporarily allowing workers to move between workplaces on holidays.
Governor Sung Nakin stated, "Securing the national budget is not just about financial support, but an essential task for securing future growth engines for Changnyeong County," adding, "I will continue to work closely with central ministries and the National Assembly to resolve local issues and do my utmost to improve the quality of life for county residents."
