On the 22nd, 1,192 scientists and engineers from Daedeok Research Complex and the Chungcheong region declared their support for Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.

At a press conference held that morning in the lobby of Daejeon City Council, they stated in their declaration of support, "The current government's science and technology policies, such as the groundless cuts to the R&D budget and the unfair stigmatization and disparagement of scientists and engineers, lack both principle and predictability." They added, "There is no future for a country without science."

They continued, "To open a new era, we need science and technology policies tailored to regional characteristics, as well as strong leadership to implement them." They emphasized, "Together with candidate Lee Jae Myung, we will strive to ensure that Korea becomes a leading nation in the global science and technology competition by promoting AI convergence industries and nurturing talent."

Park Junghyun, head of the Democratic Party's Daejeon branch, said, "One day, the science and technology community was suddenly branded as a profit-seeking cartel, and with the drastic cuts to the R&D budget, countless young researchers have ended up leaving both Korea and the Daedeok Research Complex." She continued, "This has seriously undermined the nation's future growth engine, and we cannot help but condemn the Yoon Suk Yeol administration."

She added, "The future envisioned by candidate Lee Jae Myung is to further strengthen basic science, restore and expand the R&D budget, and help not only Daejeon but all of Korea emerge as a world-class science and technology cluster," urging support for him.
