On May 22, POSCO Group launched its flagship volunteer week, the "2025 Global Volunteer Week," and began large-scale patriotic and veterans support volunteer activities around the world.
Global Volunteer Week, which began in 2010, is POSCO’s signature social contribution event involving employees. This year, it runs for ten days through May 31 under the theme "Connecting by Sharing Hope." In 2025, approximately 20,000 employees in 30 countries will participate in about 800 volunteer activities. In particular, to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the group is focusing on commemorative activities for independence activists and national patriots.
On the first day, Jang Inhwa, Chairman of POSCO Group, visited Okgyeong Elementary School in Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do, where he participated in volunteer activities with students making Hanji paper and drawing the Taegeukgi national flag. Okgyeong-myeon is known as the starting point of the Gwangyang 3·1 Movement in 1919. The event was also attended by National Assembly member Kwon Hyangyeop and Gwangyang Mayor Jung Inhwa. Chairman Jang stated, "POSCO has grown together with the local community," and added, "I hope this volunteer week serves as an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Liberation and deliver hope to the local community."
During the event, various activities to promote a culture of honoring veterans will take place at domestic and overseas business sites. POSCO International will deliver summer supplies to households of national patriots in Incheon and will replace guide signs at historic sites of the independence movement in Dalian and Hangzhou, China, with POSCO’s colored steel plate "PosART." POSCO will refurbish Korean War veterans’ memorials in Australia, while POSCO Future M will conduct environmental cleanup activities at the Seoul National Cemetery and the Yeongcheon National Cemetery.
In addition, region-specific volunteer activities such as supporting farm labor and ecological restoration are also being carried out. POSCO employees recently assisted in restoring orchards in Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province, which were damaged by wildfires, and POSCO E&C planted halophytes in the Sorae Wetland in Incheon. POSCO M-Tech is conducting an aluminum can collection campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment.
Since establishing its volunteer corps in 2003, POSCO Group has been conducting ongoing social contribution activities and operates various mutual growth programs, such as providing assistive devices for national patriots, through the "POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation."
