Gwangju Election Committee Recruits Experts in Second Round of Appointments
"Communicating with Citizens... Implementing Innovative and Inclusive Election Strategies"

As the 21st presidential election approaches, the Gwangju Election Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea is broadening its base. There has been a steady stream of declarations of support and voluntary participation in voter encouragement campaigns from people across various sectors. In addition, the Joguk Innovation Party has joined the Democratic Party’s election committee in support of candidate Lee Jaemyung.
On the 22nd, the Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea held the "Second Announcement of Gwangju Election Committee Appointments and Certificate Awarding Ceremony" at the city party election office on Sangmu-daero in Seo-gu.
The most notable figure among the new appointees is Seo Wangjin, floor leader of the Joguk Innovation Party, who will serve as co-chairman of the Gwangju Election Committee. Seo was born in Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do in 1964 and has been the floor leader of the Joguk Innovation Party since May of this year.
Yang Bunam, chairman of the Gwangju Election Committee, stated, "We have invited Representative Seo, floor leader of the Joguk Innovation Party, to realize national unity, and by recruiting opinion leaders from across various sectors in Gwangju, we have expanded the scope of the Gwangju Election Committee," adding, "The Gwangju Election Committee will take the lead in building a new Republic of Korea."
The second round of appointments included numerous experts from various sectors of the region and representatives of civil society. Notably, leaders from professional groups such as the chairman of the Gwangju Federation of Employers representing the business sector, the presidents of the Gwangju Medical Association, the Gwangju Pharmaceutical Association, and the Gwangju Association of Korean Medicine, the former Gwangju Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, as well as leaders from the disability and arts sectors, lawyers, and certified public accountants, participated in large numbers.
This move is seen as a meaningful step to broadly reflect local public sentiment and to conduct an election campaign in collaboration with Gwangju citizens. It is expected to contribute to achieving the Gwangju City Party's goal of a 90% voter turnout.
The co-chairs appointed to the election committee are: Representative Seo Wangjin, Yang Jinseok, chairman of the Gwangju Federation of Employers, Choi Jeongseop, president of the Gwangju Medical Association, Kim Donggyun, president of the Gwangju Pharmaceutical Association, Choi Euigwon, president of the Gwangju Association of Korean Medicine, Kim Jonghyo, former Gwangju Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, Kim Jeongsu, CEO of the Gwangju Peace Foundation, Kim Youngsun, chairman of the Federation of Disabled Persons, Kang Haengok, former president of the Gwangju Bar Association, Jeong Byeongmin, president of the Gwangju Certified Public Accountants Association, Lee Jeongkwon, vice chairman of the Gwangju Federation of Employers, Lim Wonsik, chairman of the Gwangju Arts and Culture Association, and Jeong Younggyun, chairman of the Sungkyunkwan Confucian Association Gwangju Headquarters, totaling 13 people.
Chairman Yang stated, "Through this second round of appointments to the election committee, we will communicate more closely with the citizens of Gwangju and implement an election strategy of innovation and unity," adding, "The Gwangju City Party will continue to recruit talented and diverse individuals to create an election campaign together with the local community."
