Eight Teams Dispatched for the 'Future Challenge Project'
Students Lead Global Exchange Activities in Vietnam and Japan
The Jeonnam Student Education Institute announced on May 22 that it had finally selected eight teams as the '2025 Youth Future Challenge Project Overseas Activity Team,' and that more than 100 middle and high school students from the Jeonnam region recently carried out educational and cultural exchange activities in Vietnam and Japan.
The Youth Future Challenge Project is a self-directed global initiative planned and executed by students themselves. It is characterized by designing exchange programs around tasks that connect the local community with the world, going beyond simple experiential activities.

This project is one of the core initiatives of the 'Glocal (Global+Local) Talent Development' policy promoted by the Jeonnam Office of Education. The final teams were selected through a preliminary camp and the presentation of implementation plans, and outstanding teams were given the opportunity to participate in overseas exchange activities.
The Vietnam activity team, in cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh Korean Education Center, visited Chau Ba Riem High School in Can Tho City. They introduced Korean culture through Taekwondo demonstrations and K-pop performances, and organized joint stages with local students featuring traditional performances, band music, and a group singing of "Arirang." In addition, they operated booths where they wrote Korean names and offered traditional game experiences, creating a natural environment for cultural exchange.
The event was further enriched by the attendance of officials from the Can Tho City Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Education, principals from schools offering Korean language classes, and Korea-Vietnam exchange organizations.
The Japan activity team was divided into four groups focusing on history, crafts, science, and animal welfare, and is conducting field trips and exchange activities tailored to each topic. The students are visiting sites related to Korea-Japan relations, traditional craft workshops, science and technology institutions, and animal welfare facilities, where they are communicating with experts to deepen their understanding of each subject.
All programs were planned and operated by the students themselves. Through this, students gained hands-on experience in problem-solving, collaboration, and self-direction. In addition, the students took the lead in promoting the future vision of Jeonnam education by introducing the 'Jeonnam Future International High School,' which is scheduled to open in March 2026, to local communities.
Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, "The very process of students planning, challenging themselves, and growing on the global stage embodies the essence of the glocal education that Jeonnam education pursues," and added, "We will continue to actively support students so that they can realize the value of K-edu on the global stage."
