Artist Jae Young Ahn Selected as Winner of the 24th Moonsin Art Award

The award ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on June 5
at the Changwon Municipal Masan Moonsin Art Museum

Artist Jae Young Ahn has been selected as the recipient of the 24th Moonsin Art Award, hosted by Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam.

Moonsin, during his lifetime, demonstrated artistic mastery from painting to sculpture. The Moonsin Art Award honors the achievements and artistic spirit of Moonsin (1923?1995), a sculptor from Masan.

The awardee, Ahn, has showcased a wide range of creative activities that transcend boundaries, including painting, ceramics, printmaking, media, film, and writing. Ahn holds a Ph.D. in Art Philosophy from Sungkyunkwan University and its graduate school, and has received numerous art awards, including the Today's Artist Award.

The Moonsin Art Award judging committee stated, "Jae Young Ahn develops the moments of objects in diverse ways through his unique sense of two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, thereby deepening their meaning. In his compositions, two or more objects are intertwined, not confined to a single concept. His three-dimensional works, which require space, simultaneously draw out curves and straight lines, arranging them in a mixed manner within a single frame, creating a subtle tension that reveals his latent technique. The artist has transformed materiality and painting, which possess relationships he contemplates, into his own painterly autonomy."

The Moonsin Art Award operating committee recognized that Jae Young Ahn embodies the artistic spirit of Moonsin demanded by the present era, not limited to either three-dimensional or two-dimensional work but also extending to film projects. They acknowledged him as a progressive artist required by contemporary times and selected him as the final recipient of the award.
