NBS: Lee Jaemyung's Approval Drops 3%p to 46%... Still Ranks First for 'Best TV Debate Performance' [PolPol News]

Kim Moonsu Rises to 32%, Lee Joonseok at 10%
Lee Jaemyung Leads in Election Outlook with 67%
Livelihood and Economy Ranked as Top Priority

Regarding the June 3 presidential election, the approval rating for Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, has slightly declined, while the approval ratings for Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party candidate, and Lee Joonseok, the Reform New Party candidate, have increased.


According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted by Embrain Public, KSTAT Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research (nationwide telephone interviews with 1,002 men and women aged 18 and older from May 19 to 21, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level and a response rate of 26.7%), Lee Jaemyung's approval rating was 46%, down 3 percentage points from the previous survey. Kim Moonsu's approval rating was 32%, up 5 percentage points from the previous survey. Lee Joonseok's approval rating was 10%, up 3 percentage points.


When asked who is most likely to win the election, regardless of personal support, Lee Jaemyung ranked first with 67%. Kim Moonsu was at 23%, and Lee Joonseok was at 1%. In the favorability survey of presidential candidates, Lee Jaemyung scored 46%, Kim Moonsu 33%, and Lee Joonseok 27%.

This time, there was also a question about the first televised debate among the presidential candidates. When asked who performed best in the debate, 42% of respondents chose Lee Jaemyung. Lee Joonseok was second with 28%, and Kim Moonsu was third with 19%.


However, among those who expressed support for Lee Jaemyung, 81% said Lee Jaemyung performed the best. Among Lee Jaemyung's supporters, 7% responded that Kwon Youngguk, the Democratic Labor Party candidate, performed best. During the debate, Kwon Youngguk questioned Kim Moonsu about responsibility for insurrection and raised progressive issues such as the anti-discrimination law. Additionally, 6% of Lee Jaemyung's supporters responded that Lee Joonseok performed best in the debate.


For Kim Moonsu, 55% of his supporters thought he performed best. The proportion of Kim Moonsu supporters who said Lee Joonseok performed best was 37%.


Among those who expressed support for Lee Joonseok, 87% said Lee Joonseok performed best in the debate.


In terms of party support, the Democratic Party's approval rating was 40%, down 2 percentage points from last week. The People Power Party's approval rating was 31%, up 3 percentage points.


As for the tasks the next president should address, recovery of the people's livelihood and economy ranked first at 49%. Political system reform and resolution of social conflicts each ranked second at 11%. Job creation and employment expansion were at 10%, diplomatic and security response at 9%, and stabilization of housing and real estate at 5%.
