Recruiting Book Donation Participants Until June 20 at Community Centers and District Libraries
Donated Books to Be Sold at The Book Day Alteul Book Market at Affordable Prices... All Proceeds Donated
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsoo) is recruiting participants for book donations in celebration of the 3rd annual reading culture event, 'The Book Day,' until June 20.
Now in its third year, 'The Book Day' is a book culture festival for Mapo-gu residents, created with community participation at its core. This year, in honor of the 2025 Year of Picture Books, the event will be held on June 28 under the theme 'Picture Books, It's Good to Have Them.'
One of the main programs of 'The Book Day,' the 'Alteul Book Market,' is a flagship initiative that promotes communication and sharing among residents through books by selling donated books at affordable prices ranging from 500 to 5,000 won per book.
Anyone can participate in book donations, which are being accepted at 16 community centers and 15 district libraries within Mapo-gu (including 4 district libraries, 9 small libraries, and 2 children's English libraries).
Any book that residents wish to share, such as novels or essays, is eligible for donation. However, books that are severely damaged or soiled, as well as magazines, exam preparation books, workbooks, and academic textbooks, are excluded from donation.
To encourage more participation in book donations, Mapo-gu will double the number of books that residents can borrow from district libraries from 5 to 10 for those who donate 10 or more books.
Proceeds from the sale of books at the 'Alteul Book Market' will be donated to the Mapo Welfare Foundation to help neighbors in need within the community.
During the two previous 'The Book Day' events held in June and November last year, a total of 11,474 books were sold, generating 20,330,000 won in proceeds, all of which were donated to the Mapo Welfare Foundation.

Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "A single book can be a great gift to someone," and added, "The warm participation of residents can make The Book Day event even more meaningful, so we hope for many to take part."
