About 20 College Student Club Members Participate in Mongdol Beach Cleanup on the 20th
The Yeongnam Sea Grant Center at Pukyong National University (Director: Professor Lee Incheol) conducted a "2025 Sea Forest Day and Oceans Day Marine Cleanup Activity with College Student Clubs" on May 20, at Cheongsapo in Busan, together with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency (President: Kim Jongdeok).
On this day, about 20 participants, including Pukyong National University students (Department of Ocean Engineering) who are members of the Yeongnam Sea Grant Center's college student club and employees of the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, took part in collecting trash from the Mongdol Beach area of Cheongsapo, Busan, starting in the morning.
The students collected not only general waste such as cigarette butts and PET bottles, but also marine debris classified as non-combustible waste, including discarded plastic fishing gear, waste Styrofoam buoys, and abandoned fishing nets.
The Center organized this activity because marine debris such as abandoned fishing gear is washed ashore in this area, and waste from fishing equipment and littering by tourists is also generated. The event was co-hosted by the Yeongnam Sea Grant Center at Pukyong National University and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, with the Marine Greening Movement Headquarters and Haeundae District Office participating.
The Yeongnam Sea Grant Center at Pukyong National University is carrying out the Sea Grant Program under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and is engaged in training fisheries professionals, conducting research on regional issues for the advancement of the marine and fisheries sector in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region, and implementing public service projects.
