Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province has launched a special crackdown to eradicate illegal distribution of the Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate and to restore its original purpose of revitalizing the local economy.
According to the city on May 22, in order to establish a sound distribution order for the local currency 'Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate,' the city has designated a 'special crackdown period on illegal distribution' until May 30 and is conducting intensive inspections targeting affiliated merchants.
Last year, the city also detected violations by two businesses through a comprehensive inspection and imposed administrative measures such as cancellation of merchant registration and fines. For five businesses with serious violations, the city requested police investigations.
Through this crackdown, the city plans to take strong administrative actions against merchants found to have engaged in illegal distribution, including: cancellation of merchant registration, recovery of unjust gains, imposition of fines, and reporting to investigative authorities.
A city official stated, "The Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate is a system designed to redirect citizens' spending within the region, support small businesses, and circulate the local economy. Abusing this system is a serious illegal act that undermines the trust of the local community. The city will continue to do its utmost to establish a fair distribution order through regular inspections and occasional crackdowns."
