Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on May 22 that it had donated 3 million won to World Vision, an international relief and development NGO, to help local children facing economic hardship.
The donation ceremony was held at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital on May 19, with Min Jungjun, the hospital director, Kang Hocheol, the deputy director of medical services, Lee Aekyung, the head of nursing, as well as Jung Byungwon, head of World Vision Gwangju Jeonnam Business Headquarters, Kwon Bongmin, head of the welfare project team, and Choi Mina, coordinator, in attendance.
This donation was made as part of the 'Social Welfare Support Project Business Agreement' signed by the two organizations in May 2023, and the funds will be used to support children from low-income families in crisis in the local community.
In particular, the donation will be used for practical areas where help is urgently needed, such as covering medical expenses for children who have to forgo treatment due to lack of funds, providing housing support for families facing housing insecurity due to unpaid rent, and offering living expenses for families struggling with overdue utility bills or insufficient heating and cooling costs.
Min Jungjun, director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, said, "It is heartbreaking that there are children who have to give up their health for economic reasons," and added, "We will continue to work so that the hospital can be a strong safety net for children in crisis together with the local community."
Jung Byungwon, head of World Vision Gwangju Jeonnam Business Headquarters, stated, "Cooperation between the local community and the hospital is a great strength in protecting the life of a child," and added, "We will ensure that the donated funds are used where they are truly needed."
