The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) recently announced on May 22 that it held the "2nd GIST Science Imagination Children's Art Contest" under the slogan "Drawing the Universe."
This contest, which took place on the morning of May 17 around Oryong Hall at GIST, was organized as part of GIST's external cooperation vision to add the value of "sharing" to science and technology.
Following the inaugural GIST Science Imagination Children's Art Contest last year, the second edition this year served as an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of sharing and further expand collaboration with the local community.
This year's contest attracted more than 200 participants, including 50 children from kindergartens and 150 elementary school students from across the country. GIST recruited participants on a first-come, first-served basis through its website and poster QR codes, and the registration closed within just two days, demonstrating a strong response.
On the day of the event, GIST organized a special event where a professional photographer took family photos for families visiting the campus for the art contest, helping them create special memories. In addition, children received cotton candy and magic balloons as gifts.

On the day of the art contest, participants freely drew their imaginative works on standard size 8 drawing paper distributed at the event, including ▲imaginative drawings on the theme of the universe ▲and future landscapes of GIST. All participants received commemorative gifts, and kindergarten participants who completed and submitted their works were given prizes without a separate awards ceremony.
GIST plans to select a total of 47 winning works through a review by art experts on May 26. The winners will receive awards such as the GIST President's Award, the GIST Development Foundation Chairman's Award, and the sponsor companies' President's Awards.
Additionally, the winning works will be exhibited for about a month starting May 28 at the "Oryong Art Hall," an exhibition space created on the first and second floor interior walls of Oryong Hall on campus, as part of GIST's efforts to promote exchange and cooperation with the local community.
Jung Yonghwa, Vice President for External Affairs, stated, "This children's art contest was a valuable opportunity to encourage children's brilliant imagination and creativity, and to bring GIST closer to the local community. Going forward, GIST will continue to do its best to realize the values of sharing and coexistence through science and technology, and to grow together with the local community."
Meanwhile, this art contest was jointly sponsored by the GIST Development Foundation, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Mujin Service Co., Ltd., Korea 3Chuk Co., Ltd., and NH Networks Co., Ltd.
