First Green Shelter Opens at Traffic Island Near Sadang Station Exit 8
Equipped with Heating, Cooling, CCTV, Emergency Bell, and Other Safety and Convenience Facilities
Dongjak District in Seoul has transformed a public phone booth into a smart safety shelter. The district announced on May 22 that, in collaboration with KT, it established the first "Dongjak Green Shelter" at the traffic island near Exit 8 of Sadang Station and held an opening ceremony on May 21.
The "Dongjak Green Shelter" is a community-oriented space jointly created by the public and private sectors to enhance residents' safety and daily convenience. It is equipped with heating and cooling systems, as well as air purification, allowing for comfortable use throughout all seasons. The shelter also features a closed-circuit (CC) TV system with real-time monitoring and an emergency bell, providing a system for rapid response in urgent situations. Additionally, it offers various amenities such as an information board with district news and traffic updates, a fast smartphone charger, and free Wi-Fi.
Dongjak District plans to continue expanding green shelters throughout the area, starting with this first location. Around 40 people, including Dongjak District Mayor Park Ilha, KT Western Corporate Customer Headquarters Director Kim Mongryong, related officials, and local residents, attended the event.
Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "I am very pleased that the 'Green Shelter,' which has transformed public phone facilities into a smart lifestyle platform, has been established in Dongjak District," adding, "We will continue to strengthen smart city infrastructure to further improve convenience in residents' daily lives."
