Library Talent Competency Development Lecture Hosted by the National Library of Korea
"Finding a Path in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"
The National Library of Korea announced on May 22 that it will hold a "Library Talent Competency Development Lecture" on May 30 under the theme "Librarians: Finding a Path in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."
This lecture is designed to bring together librarians from libraries across the country to discuss changes in the role of libraries and future directions for development in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as to redefine the expertise of librarians.
The event will begin with a lecture by Professor Kim Sangkyun from Kyung Hee University Graduate School of Business titled "Understanding Advanced Technologies." It will also feature Professor Park Jin-ho from Hansung University’s Knowledge Information and Culture Track with "Libraries: Building Innovation on Tradition," and Professor Kim Kyuhwan from Incheon University’s Department of Library and Information Science with "The Light and Shadow of Technological Advancement, and Librarians," among other topics.
In particular, the lecture will include in-depth discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence technology on the library environment and the role of librarians in the era of digital transformation. The event will also explore the changes that the introduction of AI will bring to information services and operational methods, as well as strategies for strengthening the digital expertise of librarians in response to these changes.
Kim Heesup, Director of the National Library of Korea, stated, "In this era of great transformation driven by artificial intelligence, we will actively support the enhancement of librarians' AI literacy so that libraries can become AI data-centered knowledge hubs." He added, "I hope this lecture will serve as a venue for librarians to communicate and design the future together in a changing environment."
The National Library of Korea has been providing librarian education and training for library staff nationwide since 1983 as a specialized educational institution, operating about 150 training programs annually. Information and applications for the 2025 training programs can be found on the Librarian Education Portal.
