Strengthening the ESG Implementation Network
Centered on Public Institutions in the Centum District
Public institutions in the Centum District of Busan have united to put ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles into practice.
The Centum District ESG Council (Eusseuk), which has been running a relay-style social contribution program, held a "Leaders Day" event to discuss effective ways to collaborate on ESG initiatives.
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Education Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) announced on May 22 that the "Centum District ESG Council Leaders Day," held on May 21, was successfully concluded. The event brought together the heads of participating institutions to share ESG cooperation strategies and build consensus on future directions.
The Centum District ESG Council is a regional ESG implementation network launched in July 2024, with 16 organizations, including BEXCO, KNN, the Game Rating and Administration Committee, and the Busan Design Promotion Agency, voluntarily participating. Under the joint brand "Eusseuk (ESG)," the council has consistently carried out relay-style social contribution activities such as blood drives, plogging, and mentoring for self-reliant youth. To date, a total of 26 cooperative programs have been implemented, and joint fundraising efforts have raised 5.6 million won.
The event featured a report on the council's operations, followed by a roundtable discussion among institution heads on ESG strategies. In particular, Professor Oh Jiyeong of Dong-A University, who delivered a special lecture on ESG leadership, emphasized, "For public institutions to realize ESG, communication with citizens and strengthening execution are essential," adding, "These are crucial factors that will determine the sustainability of the region."
Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, stated, "Through this Leaders Day, we were able to reaffirm our commitment to inter-institutional collaboration," and added, "We will continue to support the Centum District ESG Council so that it can establish itself as a leading ESG implementation platform in the region."
He also said, "In the second half of the year, we plan to continue various relay-style social contribution programs, including cultural experiences for children, beach cleanups, and support for underprivileged neighbors."
The Centum District ESG Council currently includes a total of 16 organizations, including BISTEP, and is gaining attention as a voluntary ESG implementation model centered on public institutions.
