"The Sea is Precious" ... Changwon Special City Holds Sea Day Commemorative Event in Jinhae 30th Sea Day Commemoration Event Held in Changwon.

'Sea Day' is a national commemorative day established in 1996 to highlight the importance of marine development and to honor the efforts of those working in related industries. This year marks its 30th anniversary.

The city expanded the period from May 1 to May 31 as 'Sea Week', encouraging voluntary marine waste cleanup activities among fishing communities, fishermen's organizations, and businesses, and supporting these efforts by providing cleaning supplies such as sacks and gloves as part of a marine cleanup campaign.

The event was hosted by Changwon Special City and organized by South Gyeongsang Province and the Changwon Maritime Police Station. Around 150 people from seven organizations and groups participated, including the Jinhae Fisheries Cooperative, the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and the Gyeongnam Eastern Branch of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association.

The event included the following: commemorative and congratulatory speeches; awards for contributors to Sea Day (four provincial governor's commendations and three mayor's commendations); a joint declaration of commitment to voluntary marine cleanup by representatives of fishermen; the release of 4,000 rockfish fry; a demonstration of an unmanned collection robot; and land and sea cleanup activities.

Cho Myungrae, the Second Vice Mayor, stated, "It is very meaningful that the commemorative event for the 30th Sea Day is being held in Changwon. As the importance of marine policies, such as marine environment conservation and ecosystem restoration, continues to grow, I ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in creating valuable fishing communities."
