Performances at Seoul Arts Center on the 22nd
and Art Center Incheon on the 23rd
The KBS Symphony Orchestra will hold its 814th regular concert at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on May 22 and at the Art Center Incheon on May 23.
The concert will be conducted by Andres Orozco Estrada, a conductor recognized as a next-generation maestro, with violinist Leila Josefowicz joining as soloist.
The program will open with Berlioz's "Roman Carnival Overture." The composer himself described this piece as "brilliant in color, lively in rhythm, and magical in orchestration." Its vibrant soundscape evokes the feeling of standing in the midst of a Roman festival.
Next, Josefowicz will perform Stravinsky's "Violin Concerto." This work borrows the formal beauty of Baroque music, but is distinguished by Stravinsky's sharp and sophisticated modern idiom. Josefowicz, who has been responsible for the premieres of many important contemporary violin works, is known for her intense and original interpretations.
The latter half of the concert will feature two symphonic poems by Richard Strauss. The first, "Don Juan," was completed when Strauss was 24 years old and is notable for its passionate melodies and bold orchestration.
The following piece, "Suite from Der Rosenkavalier," is an orchestral suite that brings together the most beautiful scenes from the original opera, richly reviving the opulent aristocratic culture of Vienna during the era of Maria Theresa. It is a masterpiece that combines the romantic love story created by librettist Hofmannsthal with Strauss's uniquely nostalgic melodies.
Conductor Orozco Estrada, originally from Colombia, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and has built an international reputation through collaborations with major European orchestras. He is particularly noted for his strength in German and Austrian repertoire, and is acclaimed for his ability to combine Vienna's distinctive elegance with a modern rhythmic interpretation.
A representative of the KBS Symphony Orchestra stated, "This concert program brings together European tradition and contemporary sensibility. Audiences can look forward to the magical synergy between Orozco Estrada's conducting and Josefowicz's solo performance."
Tickets for the concerts can be reserved through the respective venues' official websites.
