AI-Based Video Analysis Service 'MAIU' Unveiled
AI Extracts Video Information for Search
Editing Time Reduced by Over 15 Times
Naver Cloud announced on the 21st that it has unveiled its video analysis service, 'MAIU (Media AI Understanding),' at KOBA 2025 (International Broadcasting, Media, Audio & Lighting Exhibition) held at COEX in Seoul.
MAIU is a service in which artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes information within videos, automatically extracts it as metadata, and enables users to search through it. The service is currently in closed beta (CBT) for domestic broadcasters and partners, and is scheduled for official release next month.
This service allows users to find desired scenes simply by entering text such as "scene with a wine glass" or "scene where the male lead is running." The AI automatically analyzes information such as people, actions, backgrounds, and voices within the video, generates metadata, and utilizes it for search.
By using MAIU, users can reduce the time required for metadata extraction and rough editing, which are the most time-consuming parts of video production. Typically, producing one episode of a variety show involves filming 3,600 minutes of footage, and the conventional process of analysis and rough editing took about 32 hours. According to Naver Cloud, with MAIU, this process can be completed in less than 2 hours, resulting in more than a 15-fold reduction in time.
Naver Cloud emphasized that, unlike existing AI video analysis services that struggle to understand the flow or context of video content, MAIU analyzes videos based on segments (scenes), which are meaningful units within the content. Because it analyzes videos in natural segment units according to the flow and structure of the story, it is immediately usable for editing or repurposing content.
The usage fee is planned to be set at up to one-third the level of competing global products through model optimization when officially launched. In addition, features such as mobile live streaming and VOD video transmission can be used on the same platform, enabling the entire process from production to transmission to be managed in one place.
Naver Cloud expects that, through MAIU, not only broadcasters and video production companies but also creators of YouTube and short-form content will be able to reduce simple editing time and focus on creative work.
Sung Moogyung, Head of Platform Planning at Naver Cloud, said, "The rapidly growing video industry is one of the fields where innovation is most anticipated through cloud adoption and active introduction of AI technology," adding, "Including AI video analysis services, we will strive to meet diverse customer needs and drive innovation in the video industry with end-to-end media services that encompass the entire process from content creation, editing, distribution, to management."
