Early Session Rally... KOSPI Up 0.8%

KOSDAQ Rises Over 1%
Foreign and Institutional Buying Drives Up Indices
Pharmaceuticals and Machinery Lead Sector Gains
Top KOSDAQ Stocks Show Strong Performance

Both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices are showing upward trends in the early session. Foreign investors and institutions are net buyers in the early trading hours, driving the indices higher.


On May 21, the KOSPI opened at 2,615.90, up 0.54% from the previous day. By 9:24 a.m., it had risen further to 2,624.40, expanding its gain to 0.87%.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions made net purchases of KRW 16.7 billion and KRW 4.0 billion, respectively. Individual investors recorded net sales of KRW 23.5 billion.


Almost all sectors are on the rise. The pharmaceutical sector saw the largest increase at 2.47%. This was followed by machinery and equipment (1.73%), medical and precision instruments (1.67%), transportation equipment and parts (1.41%), construction (1.27%), general services (1.18%), manufacturing (1.09%), and metals (1.06%), all of which rose by more than 1%. Only food, beverage and tobacco (-0.25%) and insurance (-0.14%) posted slight declines.


Most of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization also rose. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries climbed 3.1%, and Samsung Biologics rose 3.0%, both gaining more than 3%. Other notable risers included Hanwha Aerospace (1.6%), LG Energy Solution (1.2%), Samsung Electronics (0.8%), Celltrion (0.6%), Kia (0.6%), KB Financial Group (0.5%), and SK Hynix (0.5%). Hyundai Motor was the only one to decline, falling by 0.4%.


The KOSDAQ also started higher at 720.64, up 0.71% from the previous day. By 9:24 a.m., it had extended its gain to 723.74, up 1.14% from the previous session.


In the KOSDAQ market, individuals and institutions were net buyers of KRW 7.9 billion and KRW 8.2 billion, respectively. Foreign investors recorded net sales of KRW 13.8 billion.


The majority of sectors are also on the rise. Transportation equipment and parts (2.15%), pharmaceuticals (1.91%), general services (1.88%), other manufacturing (1.46%), chemicals (1.24%), manufacturing (1.22%), and medical and precision instruments (1.16%) posted the largest gains. Publishing and media reproduction (-0.31%), transportation and storage (-0.23%), entertainment and culture (-0.17%), and construction (-0.09%) declined.


All of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are up. Hugel surged by 5.3%. This was followed by Alteogen (3.7%), Classys (2.4%), Ecopro (2.0%), Ecopro BM (1.9%), Peptron (1.7%), Rainbow Robotics (1.1%), Rigakem Bio (0.7%), HLB (0.7%), and PharmaResearch (0.4%).
