The National Fire Agency is accelerating the overseas expansion of the fire industry by fostering fire industry technologies. By 2029, domestic sales in the related industry are expected to exceed 23 trillion won, and exports are projected to surpass 260 billion won.

On May 20, the National Fire Agency announced the "2025 Fire Industry Promotion Policy" at the Government Complex Sejong, outlining these initiatives.

Expansion of Fire Industry into Overseas Markets... This comprehensive support plan reflects concerns that the domestic fire industry lags behind the United States and Europe in terms of technology and is less price-competitive compared to Chinese products. Furthermore, although the domestic fire industry comprises about 9,800 businesses employing approximately 185,000 people and generates sales of around 19.4 trillion won, since 2023, the industry has seen a decline due to factors such as the global economic downturn and the Russia-Ukraine war.

In response, the National Fire Agency has decided to implement the "Fire Industry Promotion Policy" based on four main strategies: strengthening domestic demand and overseas market entry, establishing a sustainable development system for the fire industry, creating a foundation for fire industry growth, and promoting the development of advanced technologies and products in the fire industry. The agency plans to strengthen international cooperation, operate a Korea Pavilion at overseas fire exhibitions, support export insurance premiums, and assist with obtaining overseas certifications. Additionally, it will provide practical financial support, such as reducing guarantee fees and interest costs through the Fire Industry Mutual Aid Association, to help small-scale fire industry businesses grow.

The agency also plans to develop next-generation fire technologies, such as equipment for responding to electric vehicle and lithium-ion battery fires and unmanned firefighting robots. It will also revise technical standards for firefighting products to meet international levels and encourage technological development in the industry through new technology and new product certification systems.

The National Fire Agency expects that, as a result, domestic sales in the related industry will increase from 19.4 trillion won last year to 23.2 trillion won in 2029, representing an average annual growth rate of 3.6%. During the same period, exports are expected to rise from 187.1 billion won to 264.9 billion won. Yoon Sangki, Director of Equipment and Technology at the National Fire Agency, stated, "The safety industry is growing rapidly worldwide, so the targeted average annual growth rate for domestic sales is fully achievable," adding, "In the export sector, the National Fire Agency is strategically focusing on products and equipment."

From May 28 to 30, the National Fire Agency will host the "2025 International Fire Safety Expo" at EXCO in Daegu under the theme "K-Fire Industry, To the World and the Future!" The expo is one of the world's top five and Asia's top three fire exhibitions certified by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), and aims to promote new technologies and products from fire industry companies, facilitate purchase and export consultations, and revitalize the fire industry. This year, a record 1,521 booths will be operated by a total of 427 organizations and companies, including 80 companies from 25 countries.
