"Joint Research on Autonomous Driving and AI Semiconductors" Korea Automobile Mobility Safety Society Partners with Purdue University

The Korea Automobile Mobility Safety Society announced on May 20 that it had signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for international joint research and academic exchange with Purdue University during its recent Spring International Conference held in Jeju.

The society explained that this agreement is the result of ongoing academic exchange and cooperation between the society and Purdue University. At a seminar hosted by Purdue University earlier this year, Shin Donghoon, Vice President of Academic Affairs of the Korea Automobile Mobility Safety Society and Professor at Korea Maritime and Ocean University (Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence), presented on "Data-Driven AI Autonomous Driving Technology for Enhancing Human Acceptability," which helped establish a consensus for mutual cooperation between the two parties.

Purdue University is designated by the Korean government as a Korea-US Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cooperation University. In partnership with SK hynix, it is building an advanced AI semiconductor packaging and research and development facility in Indiana, United States, with an investment of $3.9 billion. With this agreement, the two institutions have also decided to collaborate on research into automotive AI semiconductors, a key component of the upcoming era of autonomous driving.

The LOI includes collaboration on autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technologies, the development of digital twin-based driver-customized predictive models, joint research on automotive AI semiconductors, and the development of joint education programs and researcher exchanges. Ahead of the Korea Automobile Mobility Safety Society’s Fall International Conference to be held in November, the two sides will share researcher profiles and hold regular working meetings. They also plan to explore opportunities for the society’s researchers to participate in the SK hynix-Purdue collaboration project and to join Korea-US joint research programs supported by the Korean government and industry.

At this Spring conference, Purdue University professors Ziran Wang and Ankit Verma participated and presented on "Driver-Customized Digital Twin Technology" and "Human Behavior-Based Autonomous Driving System Research." Ha Sungyong, President of the Korea Automobile Mobility Safety Society, stated, "Through cooperation with Purdue University, we will be able to demonstrate global leadership in the fields of autonomous driving and mobility safety," and added, "At the Fall conference, we will present more in-depth research results and provide a venue for active exchange."
