Gwangju Office of Education Presents Government Awards to Meritorious Teachers on Teacher's Day

The Gwangju Office of Education held the "44th Teacher's Day Government Award Ceremony for Meritorious Teachers" on the 20th at the Superintendent's Office.


This ceremony was organized to honor the contributions of teachers who have dedicated themselves to the advancement of education and to reaffirm the value of education.

On this day, one recipient each received the Green Stripes Order of Service Merit and the Jade Order of Service Merit, while three received the Presidential Citation and three received the Prime Minister's Citation. On this day, Superintendent Lee Jungseon presented medals and citations to eight meritorious teachers.


Principal Na Okju of Hanam Jungang Elementary School received the Green Stripes Order of Service Merit, while teacher Kim Kyunghee of Chipyeong Elementary School received the Jade Order of Service Merit. Teacher Kim was the only recipient from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk to be selected for the 14th Korea Teacher's Award, recognized for contributions to student rights and autonomy.


The Presidential Citation was awarded to Go Myungsook, principal of Bangnim Kindergarten; Park Taeho, principal of Gwangju Technical High School; and Jeong Huntak, supervisor at the Gwangju Office of Education. The Prime Minister's Citation was awarded to Seo Jeomgwon, teacher at Seolwol Girls' High School; Ha Juil, vice principal of Pungam Elementary School; and Jeong Miyeong, teacher at Yuan Elementary School.


Superintendent Lee stated, "The lives of teachers who have walked alongside children for decades are the living history of Gwangju education. I am grateful to those who have demonstrated that teaching is a calling to shape the lives of children together."
