Gumi University Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services Students Win Awards Across the Board at 'Beverage Contest of Championship'

Sweeping Awards in Coffee Brewing, Cocktail, and Sommelier Categories,
Including the Grand Prize in Coffee Brewing

Students from the Department of Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services at Gumi University in Gyeongbuk achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Beverage Contest of Championship, with every participant from the university winning an award.

Gumi University Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services Students Win Awards Across the Board at 'Beverage Contest of Championship' Achieved All Awards Including Coffee Brewing Grand Prize, Dominating Cocktail and Sommelier Categories

The competition, held on May 17 at the Gyeongbuk Content Enterprise Support Center, was co-hosted by the Korea Cafe Restaurant Master Association and the Korean Coffee Society. Around 90 participants from across the country competed, and the contest was divided into student and general divisions.


Supported by the University Job Plus Center, students from the Department of Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services at Gumi University participated in the coffee brewing, cocktail, and sommelier categories. In the coffee brewing category, Myat Naot Toe won the grand prize, Ha Seoyoung won the gold medal, and Park Yedam, Sim Yurim, Oh Neul, Jung Yunryeong, and Choi Injeong won silver medals. Go Donghui, Sim Yeojoon, and Yoon Amin received bronze medals. In the cocktail category, Kim Jisoo, Seo Suyeon, Seo Ahyeon, Lee Nayeon, and Lee Sanghoon won gold medals, while Kim Jieun, Park Miso, Yoon Jihae, Yoo Chaeun, and Lee Wonseok received silver medals. Gil Juyeong, Kim Sein, Jeon Bomin, and Jo Yujin were awarded bronze medals. In the sommelier category, Kim Suhyun won the gold medal, Lim Sehwa the silver medal, and Lee Dabin the bronze medal, resulting in every participant from Gumi University receiving an award.


In particular, Myat Naot Toe, a student from Myanmar who won the grand prize in the coffee brewing category, said, "Thanks to the professors who guided me late into the night, I gained confidence and achieved a great result. I want to continue learning at Gumi University and become the best coffee expert in Myanmar."


Seok Miran, head of the Department of Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services, said, "Despite their busy academic schedules, the students poured their passion into preparing for the competition and achieved excellent results. I would also like to thank Professors Oh Yonghun and Jung Jigyun for their dedicated guidance in coffee brewing, cocktail, and sommelier training."


The Department of Hotel, Tourism, and Aviation Services at Gumi University is cultivating professionals for the domestic and international coffee and beverage industries through practical, hands-on education. Building on these achievements, the department is proving its competitiveness not only in the region but also in the global market.
