On May 20, the police applied for an arrest warrant for Cha Cheolnam, a Chinese national of Korean descent, who is the suspect in the knife attack incident in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
The investigation headquarters of the Siheung Police Station under the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that at around 4:20 p.m. on the same day, they had applied for an arrest warrant for Cha Cheolnam on charges including murder and attempted murder.
The police apprehended Cha Cheolnam at around 7:24 p.m. the previous day near Sihwa Lake in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung.
Cha Cheolnam is accused of killing two people, including at his home in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, and injuring two others, a convenience store owner and the owner of his building, by stabbing them with a weapon.
It has been reported that Cha Cheolnam lent approximately 30 million won to the brothers of a man in his 50s, identified as A, who is also a Chinese national of Korean descent, but when they failed to repay him, he planned the crime in advance, including purchasing a weapon earlier this month.
