Support for Pregnant Women Facing Economic and Psychological Hardships
Strengthening Community Welfare Expected
The "Gumi City Ordinance on Support for Crisis Pregnancies and Protected Childbirth," proposed by Jang Migyeong, a member of the Gumi City Council (People Power Party, Seonsan, Mueul, Okseong, Dogae), was passed at the 287th temporary session, second plenary meeting.
This ordinance aims to support pregnant women experiencing crises in childbirth and childrearing due to economic, psychological, or physical difficulties. It also seeks to promote the welfare of birth mothers, birth fathers, and their children.
The main provisions include the definition of crisis pregnancy, the responsibilities of the mayor, and the implementation of practical support programs. Through this, Gumi City plans to strengthen its role as a central hub for supporting pregnant women in crisis within North Gyeongsang Province.
Jang Migyeong stated, "Helping pregnant women in crisis who face difficulties in childbirth and childrearing to give birth safely and raise healthy children is an important responsibility of the local community," adding, "This ordinance will serve as an opportunity for Gumi City to fulfill its social responsibility for pregnant women in crisis and their children."
With the passage of this ordinance, Gumi City is expected to establish a system for the protection and support of pregnant women in crisis, thereby strengthening community welfare.
