Gumi City Councilor Lee Jeonghee Secures Legal Basis for "Family Considerate Parking Spaces"... Partial Ordinance Amendment Passed in Plenary Session

The partial amendment to the Gumi City Ordinance on the Installation and Management of Parking Lots, proposed by Councilor Lee Jeonghee (People Power Party, proportional representative), was finally approved at the 2nd plenary session of the 287th extraordinary meeting of the Gumi City Council.

The main focus of this ordinance amendment is to establish a legal basis for the installation of "family considerate parking spaces" so that transportation-vulnerable individuals, such as pregnant women, the elderly, and families accompanied by infants and young children, can use parking lots more safely and conveniently.

Until now, considerate parking zones for people with disabilities or female drivers have been partially operated, but there have been criticisms that there was insufficient consideration for family users.

Once the amendment is implemented, it will be possible to secure separate zones within parking lots for family transportation-vulnerable individuals, which is expected to realize a more detailed transportation welfare system.

Councilor Lee Jeonghee stated, "There is a need for practical policies that allow pregnant women, the elderly, and guardians of infants and young children to use parking lots more safely," and added, "I hope this ordinance amendment marks the starting point of Gumi City's attentive administration for transportation-vulnerable individuals."

Following the promulgation of this amended ordinance, the city plans to establish related implementation plans and gradually expand the introduction of "family considerate parking spaces," focusing on public facilities and public parking lots.
