Gokseong County (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced on May 20 that, in celebration of Family Month, it held a joint child abuse prevention awareness campaign on May 19 at the Gokseong World Rose Festival site. The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the Gokseong Police Station, Gokseong Office of Education, and the Jeonnam Northern Child Protection Agency, all of which are agencies responsible for responding to child abuse.

The campaign targeted festival visitors and local residents, distributing pamphlets to raise awareness about reporting child abuse, encouraging people to write supportive messages for abused children, and providing information on ways to relieve parenting stress.

Participants in the campaign explained in detail the signs that may indicate child abuse through the distribution of leaflets and promotional items, encouraging both tourists and local residents to take an active interest in reporting suspected cases.

A tourist who participated in the campaign said, "Through this campaign, I learned about proper parenting methods and came to understand the difference between corporal punishment and discipline. I will strive to help children grow up properly by using positive discipline methods."

An official from the county stated, "We are making active efforts to prevent child abuse and protect abused children within the local community. We hope that this campaign will serve as an opportunity to fundamentally eradicate child abuse by spreading a culture of respect for children and positive parenting, so that children can grow up happy and safe."

Meanwhile, the county holds monthly information-sharing council meetings with related agencies to share information on abused and suspected abused children and to seek ways to strengthen the child protection system through cooperation.
