"We Will Prevent Regional Extinction Through Educational Policies"
Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, has joined the 'Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness of Population Issues' to highlight the seriousness of aging and low birth rates and to expand public consensus on these issues.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education on May 20, this campaign is co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare. Central government agencies, local governments, public institutions, and private companies are participating in relay format. Superintendent Kim was nominated to participate in the campaign by Han Suhwan, President of Dong-Eui University.
Superintendent Kim emphasized, "Population issues are not simply a matter of education, but a structural challenge that has a significant impact on all aspects of our society," and added, "Active response at the level of the Office of Education is necessary to safeguard Busan's future and the sustainability of the local community."
In particular, he stated, "It is urgent to implement job creation measures to prevent the outflow of young people from the region and to increase the birth rate," adding, "Now is the time for all institutions, companies, and citizens of Busan to come together." He also expressed the Office of Education's commitment to actively promoting educational policies to address the risk of regional extinction.
Superintendent Kim nominated Choi Jaewon, President of Pusan National University, and Yang Jaesaeng, Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the next participants in the relay.
