Planned to Hold Another Wedding with a Different Woman One Week Later
"Serious Violation of Public Order and Good Morals"
A government official in China who attempted to hold wedding ceremonies with two women in succession within a week was eventually exposed and dismissed from his position.
According to reports from Chinese media outlets such as Guancha and Shangguan News on May 20, the Songyang County government in Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, announced the results of its investigation via social networking services (SNS) the previous day regarding online rumors that "a male official from the Songyang County Transportation Bureau held wedding ceremonies with two different women."
According to the announcement, the official, identified as Pan, was an administrative enforcement assistant at the Songyang County Transportation Bureau and was simultaneously in relationships with two women, identified as Huang and Zhou. Pan held a wedding ceremony with Huang on May 10 and had planned to hold another wedding ceremony with Zhou on May 17, one week later. However, three days after the first wedding, on May 13, he canceled the second wedding with Zhou.
The Songyang County government stated, "Pan's actions seriously violated public order and good morals in society and had a negative impact," adding, "After discussion, the Transportation Bureau decided to dismiss Pan."
Previously, a netizen posted on SNS that an employee of the Songyang County Transportation Bureau had been in relationships with two women for seven years and three years, respectively, and held wedding ceremonies with both of them this month. Chinese local media reported that the man was unable to proceed with the second wedding after being caught for "two-timing" following the first wedding ceremony. The reports also stated that he did not officially register marriages with either woman.
