At around 5:00 p.m. on May 19, a fire broke out at a pig farm in Yulgok-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, resulting in two casualties and property damage amounting to several hundred million won.
The fire completely destroyed one building and killed approximately 13,000 pigs, including sows and piglets, causing property damage estimated by the fire department at about 2.325 billion won.
One university student who was undergoing training at the site was found dead, and a woman of Nepalese nationality sustained minor injuries.
The fire authorities issued Level 1 of the fire response protocol at around 5:19 p.m. to prevent the fire from spreading and lifted it at around 9:00 p.m.
The fire was fully extinguished at 9:35 p.m., about four hours and thirty minutes after it broke out.
A total of 200 personnel, including 120 firefighters and 10 police officers, as well as 45 firefighting vehicles and equipment, including 4 helicopters, were mobilized at the scene.
The police and fire authorities plan to conduct a joint inspection and autopsy to determine the exact cause of the fire and the cause of death.
