Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital recently announced on May 20 that it held the 2025 Pain Campaign under the theme "Cancer Pain, Don't Endure It, Speak Up."

The campaign, held on the first floor of the hospital that day, drew significant attention, with more than 300 visitors participating.

This campaign was organized by the Regional Hospice Center. Its purpose was to emphasize that cancer pain is not just a minor discomfort but a core aspect of treatment, and to raise awareness so that patients can express their pain and actively seek treatment.

On-site programs included: raising awareness about cancer pain, providing information on pain management education, operating a cancer pain counseling booth, and distributing promotional leaflets on pain control for patients. The consultation hospice team and the pediatric and adolescent palliative care team also participated in the promotional activities.

Additionally, the Regional Hospice Center supported hospice-specialized institutions in the Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeju regions?such as Gwangju Christian Hospital, Suncheon Medical Center, and Jeju National University Hospital?by providing promotional materials, thereby working to spread awareness of pain management throughout the local community.

Shim Hyunjung, professor of oncology and director of the Regional Hospice Center, stated, "Many cancer patients mistakenly believe that taking a lot of painkillers is harmful to their health, so they endure the pain. However, cancer pain can be controlled with appropriate treatment, which can greatly improve the patient's quality of life."

She added, "Through this campaign, I hope that patients, caregivers, medical staff, and the local community will all have the opportunity to correct misunderstandings about cancer pain and opioid analgesics, and to obtain accurate information."
