The 6th Island Day celebration will be held this year from August 7 to 10 for four days at the coastal park area in Wando County, Jeonnam. Under the theme "Take Your Time and Explore the Island," a variety of hands-on exhibitions and side events will take place.

In particular, actor Wi Hajoon, who is originally from Wando, is scheduled to attend the ceremony in person to greet visitors. Singers Ha Hyunwoo, Ahn Sunghoon, and TripleS are expected to energize the atmosphere with celebratory performances.

Culinary researchers Oh Seduk and Jung Jiseon will present a "Marine Healing Table" using local island specialties on site, sharing the charm of island food culture with participants. During the celebration, there will be experience-based exhibition halls themed around marine healing and forest healing, as well as a variety of programs including island trail walking, a children's island healing academy, an island drawing contest, and an academic conference on island development.

Ko Kidong, Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety, stated, "Islands are home to 800,000 residents and are precious assets that embody unique cultures. I hope this event encourages many people to visit islands and take time to reflect on their daily lives at a relaxed pace."

Shin Woochul, Mayor of Wando County, emphasized, "Wando, which consists of 265 islands, is the only healing island in Korea. We are honored to host the Island Day event. We will do our utmost to prepare for the event to promote the value of islands and revitalize tourism."

Meanwhile, to mark Island Day, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is running the "Island Day × Hometown Love Donation" campaign with 28 island-region local governments until June 30. Donors will have the chance to win various prizes, including accommodation vouchers, through a lottery.
