The Department of Fire Safety Management at Dong-Eui Science University held a 'Future Career Experience Event' on May 14 in collaboration with firefighters from the Busan 119 Safety Experience Center.
This program was organized to enhance students' understanding of their future roles and to strengthen their on-site response capabilities. A total of about 60 students participated.
The event was divided into two main parts: a special lecture in the seminar room and a hands-on experience program on the athletic field. In the seminar room, an active-duty firefighter delivered a lecture on the roles and sense of duty of fire officials, sharing real-life stories based on field experience, which drew strong interest and engagement from the students.
On the athletic field, an ambulance and a fire pump truck were dispatched to the campus, providing students with realistic, hands-on activities. Students had valuable opportunities to develop practical skills by using actual equipment for water spraying training, rescue drills, fire hose dragging experiences, and fire pump truck boarding experiences.
In particular, the fire hose dragging experience required students to drag the hose as quickly and accurately as possible within a limited time to reach the target point. This activity, which demanded both physical strength and teamwork, received an enthusiastic response.
The final activity, boarding the fire pump truck, allowed students to see and experience firefighting equipment used in real situations, greatly contributing to their understanding of and motivation for fire service careers.
Byun Taeyoung, head of the Department of Fire Safety Management at Dong-Eui Science University, stated, "This Future Career Experience Event was a very meaningful time for students to go beyond theory and practically experience their future career paths," adding, "We will continue to expand practical educational opportunities through collaboration with various firefighting-related organizations."
