Gwanak District (Mayor Park Junhee) has begun welcoming visitors in earnest by offering discount benefits at popular restaurants near Boramae Park, the venue for the Seoul International Garden Expo.
Boramae Park, where the Seoul International Garden Expo will be held starting on May 22, is adjacent to the Sillim Station area. In response to the expected influx of approximately 10 million visitors over the five-month duration of the expo, the district aims to boost small business sales and revitalize the local economy through cooperation linked to the local commercial area.
Accordingly, on May 19, the district signed an agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Gwanak District branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association for “local commercial area revitalization and mutual growth.” Under this agreement, participants in the expo’s garden tour who receive stamp verification at six or more out of the seven designated gardens and present it to participating businesses will be eligible for discounts.
The businesses participating in the discount event include 33 restaurants located in Boramae-dong and Sillim-dong, adjacent to Boramae Park. These businesses will receive promotional posters and support through the expo’s official promotional channels.
During the expo, the district plans to recruit additional participating businesses in collaboration with the Gwanak District branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association and the Sillim-dong Star Light Street Merchants’ Association.
Meanwhile, with the Seoul International Garden Expo being held at Boramae Park adjacent to Gwanak District, the district has developed a variety of measures to revitalize the local commercial area.
First, the district will issue the “Gwanak Ttaenggyeoyo Gift Certificate” in commemoration of the Seoul International Garden Expo, with a total value of 500 million won, on June 4. The Ttaenggyeoyo Gift Certificate can be purchased at a 15% discount, and since Gwanak District has been selected as a pilot district for Seoul’s public delivery service, buyers can enjoy up to a 30% discount including payback benefits.
Seven local alley commercial areas and traditional markets near the expo venue will also host commercial area festivals, where visitors can enjoy signature local restaurants and unique festival content exclusive to Gwanak District. The district will operate a promotional booth within the expo, distributing promotional leaflets and encouraging expo visitors to visit nearby commercial areas.
Additionally, the district will create various gardens and flower paths along Bongcheon-ro, Nangok-ro, and within Byeolbitnaerincheon, which lead to Boramae Park, further heightening the anticipation of visitors attending the expo.
Mayor Park Junhee stated, "The Seoul International Garden Expo is expected to serve as an important opportunity to invigorate our district’s local economy," adding, "I hope the Seoul International Garden Expo will be a great success, drawing large crowds, and that many visitors will actively use nearby commercial areas, amplifying the synergy of mutual growth."
