On May 19, Kyungil University (President Jung Hyuntae) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea American Football Association (President Yoo Hojung) at the university's main building international conference hall, agreeing to collaborate for the development of American football and the cultivation of professional talent.
The signing ceremony was attended by President Jung Hyuntae, Dean of Academic Affairs Jung Jigyu, KIU Sports Team Director Kim Yeon, American Football Team Director Lee Geonyeong, as well as Yoo Hojung, President of the Korea American Football Association, Executive Director Hong Donghyuk, and National American Football Team Head Coach Jang Wonseok.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will join forces to jointly develop and operate American football education and training programs, facilitate exchanges and training among players, coaches, and experts, co-host seminars and workshops, provide various forms of support to promote university-level American football, and offer internship and practical training opportunities for students.
Kyungil University, aiming for sports specialization, currently operates the KIU Sports Team, which consists of eight sports including American football, soccer, baseball, swimming, curling, jiu-jitsu, volleyball, and taekwondo. The university is also creating an educational environment that allows student-athletes to balance both academics and athletics.
In particular, the Kyungil University American football team, the Black Bears, has established itself as a regional powerhouse by winning the 2024 Daegu-Gyeongbuk Autumn University League with an undefeated season.
President Jung Hyuntae stated, "This agreement will serve as an opportunity to demonstrate the diversity of university sports and the growth potential of American football," and added, "We will continue to provide strong support so that students can realize their potential in the field of sports."
