Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Younghyeon) announced on May 19 that it is publicly recruiting participants for the '2025 2nd Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark Youth Exploration Team' until May 28, in order to enhance local youths' understanding of geological resources and their capacity for international exchange.

Pocheon City Recruiting Participants for 'Hantangang Youth Exploration Team'... Full-Scale International Geological Exchange Begins

The Youth Exploration Team was established to promote the value of the Hantangang Global Geopark, Pocheon's representative natural heritage, to young people, and to explore the possibilities of sustainable development and educational tourism through international exchange with the Itoigawa Geopark in Japan.

This second program will be expanded based on the achievements of last year's first exploration team. To this end, Pocheon City held a working-level meeting with Itoigawa City in Japan in February and discussed measures for geological education exchange between the two cities.

Youths selected for the exploration team will participate in theoretical education and field trips to the Hantangang Geopark, engage in real-time online exchanges with the Japanese geopark, and take part in a six-day, five-night field trip to Japan. Through these activities, they will introduce Pocheon's geological resources to the world and serve as a bridge for international exchange.

Eligible applicants are middle school students or youths of the same age group residing in Pocheon City, with a total of 10 participants to be selected. Applications may be submitted via email, and the final participants will be chosen through a first-round document review and a second-round interview.

A Pocheon City official stated, "The first youth exploration team played a significant role in raising international awareness of the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark," adding, "We hope that this year's second exploration team program will provide young people with a valuable opportunity to recognize the importance of geological resources and to develop their global competencies."
