The Gwangju Nambu Police Station held a 'Nambureopju' 112 Emergency Call Commendation Award Ceremony to present prizes to residents of Nam-gu who actively cooperated in crime prevention through 112 emergency calls.
According to the Nambu Police Station on May 19, a resident identified as Kim, who received an award this time, made a 112 emergency call on April 15 after noticing a person, referred to as A, suspiciously carrying a large number of items in a shopping basket near an unmanned store in Nam-gu, Gwangju. Responding to the call, the police arrived and confirmed that A had indeed stolen multiple items from the unmanned store, leading to their arrest.
On the same day, in the early morning, another resident identified as Lee discovered a three-year-old child wandering alone on a walking trail wearing only a diaper, made a 112 emergency call, and safely protected the child until the police arrived. On May 19, a convenience store part-timer identified as Hong witnessed a customer crying after receiving a phone call impersonating the Financial Supervisory Service and immediately called 112, successfully preventing voice phishing damage.
The Nambu Police Station selected these three cases, in which citizens' contributions to community safety stood out, as commendable acts and held the award ceremony to recognize their achievements and express gratitude.
Kim Jongdeuk, Chief of the Nambu Police Station, stated, "Voluntary 112 emergency calls by citizens play a major role in further strengthening the community safety net," and added, "We will continue to promote a healthy reporting culture and do our best to make Nam-gu, Gwangju a safer place."
