"Not Me, But the Air Force and the Department of Defense Are the Recipients"
Donald Trump, President of the United States, has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against the American broadcaster ABC, which published an exclusive report claiming that he would receive a Boeing 747-8 aircraft worth $400 million (approximately 557.3 billion KRW) as a gift from the Qatari royal family.
On May 18 (local time), President Trump stated on his social networking service (SNS), Truth Social, "Why is Bob Iger, Chairman of Disney (ABC's parent company), taking no action against ABC's fake news?" referring to the lawsuit.
He also mentioned that he had received a total of $16 million in damages from ABC, including a settlement and legal fees, due to comments made by George Stephanopoulos, host of ABC's "This Week." He pointed out, "He was warned, but the management failed to restrain him."
During an interview in March last year, Stephanopoulos stated, "Trump was found liable for rape in a civil trial," which led President Trump to file a lawsuit against ABC, claiming it was false reporting. President Trump had lost a civil damages lawsuit for rape filed by columnist Jean Carroll in May 2023. However, the jury only recognized sexual abuse, not rape, because it was unclear which part of President Trump's body was involved in the sexual contact. ABC resolved the case in December last year, after Trump was elected president, by paying a settlement and issuing an apology.
President Trump said, "Now it looks like they're trying to do it again. I am warning these lowlifes once more," adding, "Qatar, a great country that has pledged to invest over $1.4 trillion in the United States, deserves better treatment than this kind of fake news."
President Trump also asserted that the recipient of the Qatari royal family's gift is the U.S. Air Force and the Department of Defense, stating, "No one should say that Qatar is giving me a Boeing 747 for free." He continued, "Through this, Qatar is saving hundreds of millions of dollars in budget for the United States and American taxpayers," and criticized, "ABC's fake news is among the worst."
