Minister Song Miryung Inspects the Dangjin Smart Livestock Complex
First Project Completed After Five Years of Public-Private Cooperation
Aims to Improve Productivity and Rural Living Standards Through Smartization
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that Minister Song Miryung visited the Smart Livestock Complex located in Godae-myeon, Dangjin-si, Chungnam Province on May 19 to inspect its operational status.
This project, which began in 2019 as a government-supported initiative, aims to consolidate outdated and scattered livestock farms into complexes equipped with information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, thereby promoting productivity improvement and enhancing the quality of rural living environments through smartization.
The Dangjin complex visited by Minister Song is the first completed case of this project. It consists of five large-scale smart barns with a total land area of 13.9 hectares and a floor area of 7,210 square meters (equivalent to 1.1 times the size of a soccer field), a communal milking parlor capable of simultaneously milking 60 dairy cows, and an ICT control center that collects and manages data such as the daily milking frequency and milk yield of the cows. Currently, 888 dairy cows are being raised, and the average daily milk yield is 27,000 kilograms, which is equivalent to approximately 135,000 servings of school milk (200 milliliters each).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, despite being in the early stages of operation, the complex has already attracted significant attention and inquiries from the livestock industry by achieving specialized and segmented milking and feeding management, resulting in a 150% increase in productivity and a 15% reduction in livestock management costs through customized individual management.
Minister Song stated, "The Dangjin Smart Livestock Complex is the first case completed through five years of public-private cooperation, and is expected to greatly contribute to enhancing the sustainability of the livestock industry by improving productivity and replacing outdated livestock facilities, thereby improving the quality of rural living environments. Going forward, we will strive to foster the Dangjin complex as a model livestock zone under the 'Rural Space Restructuring Act' that coexists with local residents."
