"Promoting Healthy Eating Habits
and Establishing a Culture of Agri-food Consumption"
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 19th that it will begin full-scale implementation of the "Dietary Education Support Project" and the "Agri-food Consumption Policy Enhancement Project" starting this month.
The "Dietary Education Support Project," which aims to foster healthy eating habits, has been implemented since 2013 based on the Dietary Education Support Act. Last year, the project offered experiential education and campaigns for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, with over 20,000 participants, receiving a highly positive response.
This year, in line with the "4th Basic Plan for Dietary Education (2025?2029)" and the "1st Jeonbuk Food Comprehensive Plan (2024?2028)," the scope and target groups of the project have been significantly expanded.
In particular, as part of the strategy to address low birth rates, dietary education for pregnant women is being newly introduced. Additionally, a new "Dietary Education Workforce Training Program" will be launched to train 50 professional instructors.
Furthermore, the education program, which was previously centered in Jeonju, will be expanded to the county and city level. Practical, field-oriented education will be provided to all residents of the province by utilizing institutions with practice facilities in all 14 cities and counties.
Alongside dietary improvement, the "Agri-food Consumption Policy Enhancement Project" will also be carried out to help residents make safer food choices. This project has been led by consumer organizations since 2014, aiming to promote the consumption of safe and reliable agricultural products and to enhance trust in local agricultural products within the province.
This year, the scope of education and promotion will be greatly expanded from the previous two certification systems?low-carbon and eco-friendly?to a total of 14 certification systems, including HACCP, geographical indication, traditional food, and alcoholic beverage quality certification. Through this, approximately 2,900 residents will be encouraged to participate in the consumption of safe and high-quality local agri-food products.
Baek Seungha, Director of the Agri-food Industry Division of Jeonbuk Province, stated, "The goal of this project is to protect residents' health through food and to promote the sustainability of local agriculture." He added, "We will create a healthy and sustainable Jeonbuk by providing customized dietary education for every stage of life and by spreading a culture of agri-food consumption."
